HOW IS SOCIAL MEDIA A TRAP- A RATTRAP – BAIT TO TEMPT?

Social Media - BAIT TO TEMPT

The subject of this blog clicked me just by browsing over the Internet based Social Media’s fake Gurus. Most of them have baits to tempt the youth of the common urge by HOW TO ……make more money, how to make many followers, how to achieve great success in career, how to make a great success, how to earn without work, how to earn money while sleeping and so on. The list of these baits is endless. Unfortunately, Victims are the most innocent youths who lack the resources and the talent the bitter truth to mention here. Nothing in this world can be achieved without talent, proper planning, consistency, patience, honesty, right strategy and rigorous hard work in any field. Slow and steady wins the race proves itself correct all the time. Don’t let these so-called Gurus harvest your crop for their sake.

Social Media is like a rattrap and the bait is the temptation of getting everything instantly and easily accessible and once you are tempted by the bait you are trapped. Selma Lagerlof, a Swedish writer  wrote many stories and translated in many languages, took to a universal theme of essential goodness in human beings. That essential goodness is the need of the time in the youths.

We all are human beings and get tempted easily by many baits in our lives but the ultimate result of the bait is that we become victim and deprive ourselves of peace, good reputation and dignity. Temptations are baits to trap us in a rattrap of disasters. In this world if you are fortunate, you can get a second chance otherwise these baits never give you a second chance to prove your worth and the life becomes worst then a hell.

Selma Lagerlof in one of her stories’ The Rattrap ‘uses same metaphor of rattrap and highlights how a person falls in temptations and is trapped. The story is about a poor young man who used to make and sell rattraps of the stolen material for his livelihood. He also took to petty thefts as selling rattrap was not sufficient for his livelihood. Due to his miserable conditions of life virtues like trust, honesty and gratitude had no place since he had seen poverty and sufferings only.  Later in the story he himself becomes victim of unwanted help done to him later the kindness and real affection of someone changes his perception of life. Earlier, he found solace in thinking ill of the world and considered it to be similar of the rattrap where men and women succumbed to temptation and are trapped in it as a result to face the consequences. Many of the people in this world are not lucky enough to get a mentor to change their lives rather chances are there to be ruined by so called helping hands.

Today the explosion of knowledge and explosion of digital gurus have confused the youth hence the best way is to have firm feet on the ground as has been said ‘When everything seems upside down make your feet firmer to the ground’. Though ‘Road not taken’ may be tough but still there is no substitute to the old values of honesty, hard work, discipline and purity of thoughts and actions. Keep yourself away from the shortcuts of life. Better late than never. Slow and steady wins the race. The world is a rattrap beware of the baits. Make a solid goal of your life and without being distracted achieve it. Remember the quote by Swami Vivekanand - Arise, Awake and Stop not till the goal is reached. Robert Frost too has rightly said -The woods are lovely dark and deep but I have promises to keep, miles to go before I sleep, miles to go before I sleep. East or West keep your pace slow and steady by keeping desirable distance from Social Sites. There is no rocket science for success.
