OF ANDAMAN AND NICOBAR ISLANDS
Andaman and
Nicobar Islands are the part of Indian Subcontinent and is the Indian Union
Territory. Its capital is Port Blair. Andaman Islands are in the Bay of Bengal

ANDAMAN AND NICOBAR ISLANDS
Andaman and
Nicobar Islands are the part of Indian Subcontinent hence no passport is
required for Indian citizens but Foreigners’ Passport along with Indian Visa is
required. Andaman and Nicobar Islands in India and abroad are becoming Popular
Tourist Destination. Millions of Tourists are visiting these islands to reach
the shores of the distant and mysterious archipelago. Indians can visit Andaman
Islands without permit but to visit Nicobar Islands you need to apply for
Tribal Permit in Port Blair Office. If you are a foreigner a little chance is
there to get a Tribal Permit to visit Nicobar Islands. One can avail two modes
to reach Andaman and Nicobar Islands:

1.By Air:
Direct
flights from Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Delhi are available for
the only commercial Airport Veer Savarkar in the capital City Port Blair of
Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Travel time to reach there vary from cities from
2.5 to 5 hrs.
2.By Ship:
Ships sail
from Kolkata and Chennai to Andaman and Nicobar Islands 3-4 days in a month and
once from Vishakhapatnam Port to Andaman and Nicobar Islands in Port Blair. Sea
Voyage takes 3-4 days. Sea voyage is not recommended unless you want an
adventure amidst the blue sea.
TO VISIT NICOBAR
ISLANDS- PERMIT REQUIRED
One can
visit Nicobar Islands with prior permission as mentioned earlier. Fly to Port
Blair and obtain a permit and head towards Nicobar Islands to reach Campbell
Bay (Campbell Bay is a village in Nicobar District of Andaman and Nicobar
Islands, India) either by helicopter or by ship heading down to South. From
Port Blair if you take ship it takes 30-40 hours means approximately 3-4 days.
Prices for sailing ranges between Rs.3000-4000.
Flying to
Nicobar is comparatively comfortable and fancy. Flying to Campbell Bay
(Nicobar) from Port Blair is costly one-way ticket costs Rs.14000-15000 by
Helicopter and takes 2 hours and 45 minutes including 45 minutes petrol stop at
Car Nicobar. The island’s Indira Point is famous for the south most point of
India.
MODE OF TRANSPORT
IN ANDAMAN ISLANDS
Government’s ferries ply in Andaman and sail almost every day. Hiring a
car is a costly affair in Andaman. Most common option to travel is by road
either avail Private Buses or Govt. Buses. Book your (Cruise-ships) ferry in
advance to visit Andaman Islands’ worth visiting places. Hotels in Port Blair
are costly but better to stay in Port Blair than in Andaman Island’s hotels
which are comparatively more costly. You can also avail regular Boat Services
from Port Blair to other Islands. Rental Self-Drive-Cars are rather better
option to experience Andaman Islands. Autoes, rental scooters and bikes are
also available to explore the islands.

Jolly Bouy Island is 22 km. away from city center. It is one of the most
popular among the archipelago of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It’s also
actually a part of Mahatma Gandhi National Park. Neat and clean blue water and
white sand makes it unique beach. One can explore rich marine life in between
various water activities.

CORBYN’S COVE BEACH
Corbyn Cove Beach Is 15 km. from Port Blair. It is the most popular and
the nearest beaches of all from Port Blair. Not only amongst tourists but it is
also popular amongst local people of the island. It is visited by locals
frequently. One can find here blue sea with a variety of marine life and
beautiful white sand beach.

CELLULAR JAIL
Cellular Jail is just 10 km. away from main Port Blair, the capital city
of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It’s a 10 minutes ferry ride from Port Blair.
Cellular Jail was constructed on Viper Island by the British to keep the
freedom fighters in exile. Cellular Jail was built in 1867.It is a beautiful
island spreading over 69 acres of area. Viper name of this island was derived
from the Viper snakes which existed there then in plenty of numbers.

WATER SPORTS COMPLEX IN ANDAMAN
Water sports complex is the main attraction in Port Blair. Though water
sports are available in all the beaches of Andaman but in Port Bliar Water
Sports Complex is very popular for the variety as well as the safety they

diving, fishing and just a boat ride is also available. One can dare to swim

MOUNT HARRIET NATIONAL PARK
There are nine National Parks in Andaman but Mount Harriet National Park
is the most beautiful Parks of them all. It is an amazing 2 - 2.5 km. Trek in
deep forest. It has great views and has been maintained very well. Mount
Harriet National Park has tent huts for night stay of the tourists.

HAVELOCK ISLAND
Havelock Island is also known as Swaraj Island and is famous for its White
Sandy Beaches. Havelock is famous for its Marvelous Reef and Swimming Elephants.
Recently it has been renamed as Swaraj Island. It is famous for its pristine
beaches, resorts and diving sites. Havelock Island is a haven for
environmentally minded tourists. From Port Blair Airport it is just a 90
minutes ferry and needs to be booked earlier.

LAXMANPUR BEACH
Laxmanpur Beach is located on Neil Island of Andaman. This beach is
divided into two parts Laxmanpur Beach I and Laxmanpur Beach II, the first one
is known for its Mesmerizing Sunset and the other is known for its Natural two Arch
Bridges. Corals and the marine life in abundance is very popular among the
tourists during the low tide. Tourists find it very tricky to walk near the Natural
Arch Bridge.

NEIL ISLAND
Neil Island is a part of South Andaman in the Bay of Bengal. A massive
ocean separates it from Ross Island and the Havelock Island. Tourist from
Havelock Island make a day long trip to Neil Island. Neil Island has its three
beaches namely Bharatpur Beach, Sitapur Beach and Laxamanpur Beach.

ROSS ISLAND
Ross Island presently known as Netaji Subash Bose Island was once an Administrative
Headquarter of the British but now it is only an uninhabited island for the
tourist to visit and explore its beauty. In 1941 it was hit by an earthquake
and then the British left it for Port Blair. Ross Island has an open wildlife like
birds, deer and rabbits.

KALA PATHAR BEACH
Kala Pathar Beach is absolutely stunning beach for Sun-rise views as
well as Sun-set swims. Kala Pathar Beach is a flawless seashore of the Bay of
Bengal. It’s a long stretch of white sand and black rocks. Swimming is
prohibited here considering people’s safety.
