PASSIONATE CRAZE MESSES LIFE-THE INVISIBLE MAN -A REVIEW OF THE NOVEL
Sometimes passionate craze messes life .The fiction by H.G. Wells The Invisible Man describes it very well. The Invisible Man is a story of a Scientist who was crazy for his work day and night .He works on his project of invisibility and completes his experiment successfully. Griffin ,the scientist and the hero of H.G. Wells plays negative role in this fiction and lands himself in unexpected troubles from beginning till end.
The invisible man was a scientist ,his name was Griffin .He couldn't tolerate any hurdle in his path to accomplish his crazy invention of invisibility. He went through a great extent of damage done to the humanity to accomplish his crazy invention .To meet the expenses of his experiments he required a heavy amount and for that he even did not hesitate to rob his father. He robbed his own father who later committed suicide as the money belonged to someone else.
He did not regret for his deed rather held his father responsible for his act .The novel is a Science Fiction and describes a brilliant student Griffin who had a great fascination for light and as a result prompted to take up Physics as a subject. After his father's death Griffin went to Great Portland Street and lived in a rented room which was full of appliances used for his experiments. He continued his experiments and finally gets success.
He discovered a formula of pigments that lowered the refractive index of any substance and allowed light to pass through it. Griffin experimented for three years and finally succeeded in making animals tissues transparent. He applied the formula of invisibility on a cat and later on himself. Griffin was very happy as he became invisible but yet he had to experiment to find a formula for his visibility. He reached Iping Town and started living in an Inn Coach and Horses. The owner of this inn Mrs. Hall was happy to find a guest but soon realized her mistake since Griffin's conduct seemed be suspicious by all. Griffin had to run away from there too. His invisibility brought him many problems. He could not carry his books and bills by himself and had to take help from a tramp Marvel ran away with his all books and bills.
Chasing Marvel Griffin reached Port Burdock .Weather proved harsh to him he was hungry and extremely tired .His invisibility drove him to animalistic traits he entered Dr. Kemp's house and ordered him to offer him drinks and food. Dr. Kemp was irked by his behavior and anti-social intentions tried to contact Police officer Colonel Adye . When Adye reached Dr.Kemp ,Griffin escaped from there too in his invisibility.
Dr. Kemp with the help of Police and the common people overpowered Griffin. Due to his invisibility it was difficult to kill Griffin finally a labor came swinging his spade and could hit Griffin's head .Thus a wicked man's wicked life came to an end. Death made his body visible.
This fiction is a very well plotted Science Fiction having 28 Chapters and an Epilogue .The events take place as the Invisible Man lands himself in many unexpected troubles. He drives himself to robbery, violence and revenge.
Many characters play vital role and highlight Griffin's negative role and prove him to be a threat to the society. Landlord at Great Portland , Mistress of the cat, Mrs. Hall at Coach and Horses, Thomas Marvel ,Dr. Kemp, Colonel Adye ,Mr. and Mrs. Bunting, Millie ,the maid all play important role and make the fiction more interesting.
