altitude of 10,682feet above sea level. International Travelers can directly board a
flight from the major cities like Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi to reach Leh
Airport by air and then ultimately to reach Ladakh. From major cities of India
one can also reach Kashmir Airport at Srinagar International Airport and then
to Leh Airport, the distance between Kashmir to Leh by air is 305 Kms. Total
6-8 days are required to make a trip by air to Leh Ladakh.
BY ROAD:
Distance
between Delhi to Ladakh by Road is 1023Kms. and takes 21:18 Hrs. to travel. You
can reach Leh and Ladakh over Srinagar Leh Highway or Manali Leh Highway. Total
of at least 10-12 days are required to make a road trip to Leh Ladakh. Reaching
Leh Ladakh you will find it safe to travel by car, motorcycle and even by Pubic
Transport.
BY TRAIN:
You can’t
reach Ladakh by train directly because no train station is available here. The
nearest railway station is in Jammu, Jammu Tawi which is 700 km from Ladakh and

JKSRTC Bus to reach Ladakh from Jammu.

3.KHARDUNG LA:
Khardung La
is also known as Khardzong La and is India’s highest motorable road which is an
elevation of 5602 meters.
4.MAGNETIC HILL:
Magnetic
Hill is located 30 km. away from Leh towards Kargil in Ladakh. This popular
hill is cyclops hill where vehicles seem to move upwards instead of rolling
downwards.
5.NUBRA VALLEY:
Nubra
Valley lies in Jammu and Kashmir and is around 140 km. from Leh. It is famous
for camel ride these camels are Bactrian camels. Nubra Valley is surrounded by
snow-dusted Himalayan Mountains.
6.SANGAM:
Sangam is the confluence of Indus and Zanskar

Tso Moriri
is the largest high -altitude lakes in India. It is at the altitude of 4595 m.
An inner line permit is required to visit it. Tso Moriri is accessible only in
summer.
9.HALL OF FAME LADAKH:
Hall of
fame is a museum which was built in the memory of those brave soldiers who lost
their lives during Indo-Pak war. This museum is located approximately 4km. from
the main city and can be visited along with other famous places.
10.THIKSEY MONASTERY:
Thiksey
Monastery is 20 km. away from Leh in South. This Monastery is in Tibetan
-style. The main highlight of it is Maitreya temple having 15meter Buddha
Statue, the largest statue in Ladakh.
11.SHEY MONASTERY AND PALACE:
Shey
Monastery or the Shey Palace is an ancient monastery. It is located on the top
of a Hillock and is having a panoramic view though it is mostly a ruin now. The
Shey Palace was built by Deldin Namgyal, the king of Ladakh, in 1655 in memory
of his father. It is 15 km away from Leh. Buddha’s 39 ft tall statue is the main
attraction here. The monastery complex is having many murals and rock carvings
of Buddha. Photography is not allowed inside this Monastery.
12. STOK PALACE:
The Stok
Palace is located 15 km. from Leh and is the home to the royal family of Ladakh
and descendants of King Senge Namgyal. It was established by King TSepal
Namgyal in 1820 and was opened for public 1980 by Dalai Lama. Stok Palace is
being converted into a heritage hotel and also houses a museum.

BEFORE YOU VISIT LADAKH:
1.For
Indians Inner Line Permits are no longer required to travel in Ladakh however
still have to pay green feeRS.300 and Red Cross Fund fee RS.100. Tourist from
other countries need to obtain a Protected Area Permit (PAP) or Restricted Area
Permit (RAP) which can be paid online or through hotel or travel agent. Govt.
has also launched a web portal http://lahdclehpermit.in
2.When we
talk about going to Leh Ladakh we refer to Leh there is no separate Ladakh
region to explore.
3.The best
time to visit Ladakh is during summer season from the month of April to July
during this time the temperature is 15 to 30 Degree Celsius.
4.Ladakh is
dry and extremely cold almost all through the year. The Leh -Manali highway is
normally open from June to October.
5.There is
lack of Oxygen in Leh and Ladakh specially traveling above 10000 feet will find
it little difficult to breath normally but low level of oxygen is absolutely
not a reason to avoid Leh Ladakh.
6.Avoid
smoking at Leh Ladakh to keep fit and also keep yourself hydrate all the time
to avoid falling sick.
