1.RED FORT

Red Fort is a tourist attraction in Delhi. Red Fort or Lal Qila is a historic fort in Old Delhi. In past Delhi was the main residence of the Mughal Emperors. Red Fort was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as the palace fort of his capital Shahjahan bad. Shah Jahan shifted his capital from Agra to Delhi and commissioned construction of the Red Fort on 12 May 1638.The construction of this fort was completed almost in ten years, between 1638 to 1648.It was named Red Fort for its massive enclosing walls of red sandstones. It is also adjacent to an older fort, the Salimgarh, which was built by Islam Shah Suri in 1546 and now it forms the Red Fort Complex. Ustad Ahmad Lahore was the Architect of Red Fort. He was a Mughal architect of Persian descent and the chief architect of Taj Mahal in Agra, also, which was built between 1632 and 1648 during the ruling period of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. The height of Red Fort is 18-33 m. It is also designated as a UNESCO site in 2007, having ID:231.

2.HUMAYUN’S TOMB

The Humayun's tomb is also a famous tourist place to visit in Delhi. It is a tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun in Delhi, India. The tomb was commissioned by Humayun's chief consort, Empress Bega Begum, in 1558, and was designed in Mughal architecture style by Mirak Mirza Giryas and his son, Sayyid Muhammad chosen by her. Humayun ’s Tomb is owned by Archaeological Survey of India. It is also a UNESCO Site. It is the burial place of Humayun, Hamida Banu Begum, Bega Begum and more. One has to buy an entry ticket to visit this historical place. Food items and water are not allowed inside the complex of Humayun’s Tomb.

3.QUTUB MINAR

The Qutub Minar, is a minaret and a "victory tower" which forms part of the Qutb complex, and lies at the site of Delhi’s oldest fortified city, Lal Kot, founded by the Tomar Rajput. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The height of this Minaret is 73 m and it was constructed by Qutb-al-Din Aibak, in 1193. This tower is the highest tower in India, complete with five storeys and projecting balconies. The tower was built to celebrate Muslim dominance in Delhi after the defeat of Delhi's last Hindu ruler. It is constructed in Indo-Islamic architecture and its present owner is Archaeological Survey of India. Qutub Minar remains open on all days of the week, and the visiting timings are from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. The best season to visit this monument is during the winters as the weather is cool and pleasant for sightseeing.

4.JAMA MASJID

Jama Masjid of Delhi, is one of the largest mosques in India. It is standing tall as one of the most historically significant structure of old Delhi. Its capacity is 25,000. It was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan between 1650 and 1656, and was inaugurated by its first Imam, Syed Abdul Ghafoor Shah Bukhari. Jama Masjid is built in Islamic architecture, Mughal architecture and Indo-Islamic architecture. It has no entry fee. Its leadership is by Ahmed Bukhari (Shahi Imam). In colonial era it was regarded as a symbolic node of Islamic power in India. It is Delhi’s one of the most iconic sites. Jama Masjid was built by Shahjahan after the death of his wife Mumtaj Mahal when he shifted his capital from Agra to Delhi and founded the walled city of Shahjahan bad. Jama Masjid was the main centre of worship for the city then. Today also it is visited by the tourist from all over the world and has a great religious sanctity and significance for Muslims.

5.INDIA GATE

India Gate is a War Memorial located at Rajpath, on the eastern edge of the "ceremonial axis" of New Delhi, which was formerly called as Kingsway. India Gate is an arch gate made of sandstone. Its architect was Edwin Lutyens. It was opened on 12th February 1931.The height of India Gate is 42m.It has no entry ticket and free for all. It commemorates 70,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives during World War I fighting for the British Army between 1914 and 1919. It also bears names of Indian and British soldiers killed in Afghan war of 1919.

6.LOTUS TEMPLE

Lotus Temple is the only Bahai temple in Asia. It is a worship temple of Bahaism known as a combination of nine great religion of the world. Lotus Temple derives its name from its Lotus shape. The Lotus Temple complex comprises of 27 independent marble petals. It has no entry ticket. Lotus Temple was opened for the public in 1986 December. It was designed by Iranian architect Fariborz Sahba.  Lotus Temple can be visited during winter and spring season to avoid scorching heat of Delhi. October to March is the ideal time to visit it. The nearest metro station to reach Lotus Temple is Kalkaji Metro Station having Violet Line route. Lotus Temple remains open all days (Monday closed) and visiting time is 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.

7.AKSHARDHAM TEMPLE

Akshardham is near the border of Noida. It is also known as Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple or               Akshardham in Delhi, India. Swaminarayan Akshardham is a Hindu Temple. It is one of the largest Hindu religious complexes of India. The complex of this temple displays traditional and modern Hindu culture, spirituality, and architecture. It has 234 carved pillars ,9 ornate domes, Gajendra pith and 20,000 statues. The architect (s) of this temple is /are Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha. The deities of this temple are Swaminarayan, Sita -Ram, Radha -Krishna, Shiv-Parvati and Laxmi Narayana. This temple was completed on 6th November 2005 and took five years to build its architectural marvel. Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple is one of the top tourist attractions in Delhi. In this temple entry is free but ticket is for exhibition only. It comprises of 200 sculptured stone figure of monks, sages, acharyas and other divine incarnations of Hindus. Cell phones, cameras and other electronic devices are not allowed inside this temple.

8.RASHTRAPATI BHAVAN

The Rashtrapati Bhavan is the official residence of the President of India at the western end of Rajpath in New Delhi, India. The Architects of Rashtrapati Bhavan are Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker. Its construction started in 1912, was completed in 1929 and opened in 1931.It is built in 130 hectare that is 321 Acre. It is built in Neoclassical architectural style. Until 1940, it was Viceroy’s House and from 1947 to 1950 it was a Government House.  Rashtrapati Bhavan is now, the official residence of the Present of India which is the world’s largest democracy and is its strength. Rashtrapati Bhavan has 340 rooms and has 2.5 km corridors. It has 190 acre of garden area which is open for public every year in the month of February.

9.NATIONAL MUSEUM


ABOUT

National Museum of Delhi is also known as the National Museum of India. It is one of the largest museums in India. The building was constructed in 1940 designed in neoclassical style by Architect Antonio Toledo. This Museum was founded on 15th August 1949.It holds a variety of articles ranging from pre historic to modern. This museum has a variety of artefacts from Harappan Civilization also known as Indus Valley Civilization. The name of its architect is Ganesh Bhikaji Deolalikar. It functions under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. It opens at 10am.Students have free entry to it but for others it has entry fee. Filming video and recording devices are not allowed in the museum without the prior permission of the museum authorities.

 10.PURANA QILA


ABOUT

Purana Qila, too is one of the oldest forts in Delhi, India. It was built by the second Mughal Emperor Humayun and Sultan Sher Shah Suri. Purana Qila functions as a museum. It was built between 1538 and 1545.It was built on the site of ancient city of Indraprastha, of Pandavas mentioned in Hindu epic Mahabharata. It is the most captivating tourist site of Delhi that narrates the history of Delhi in full detail. It is evidence of glory of the Mughal Arts. You can pay a fee for carrying a camera and in the evening enjoy Light and Sound Show.
